There are many different kinds of cars on the market today for us to choose from. Their designs are carefully thought out to meet the requirements of the people buying them and must now stand up to some rigorous testing (which is stipulated by law) to make sure that they are safe to drive on the roads. The following article gives an in-depth description of some of the popular choices people make when searching for cars.
"Classic car" is a term we use to describe an older car, but the exact meaning is subject to differences in opinion. Some people believe that all cars built before 1st January 1973 (which makes them exempt from paying the annual road tax) constitutes being a classic car, where as others consider any older car in fine condition as a classic. The CCCA term, "Classic Car" has been confined to "the functionally traditional designs of the earlier period" (mostly pre-war). The French 1948 Delahaye is a good example of a final year of "Classic Era Design", here is a list of cars that are considered classics from this particular year: Alfa Romeo, Auburn, Bentley, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Cord, Delahaye, Duesenberg, Graham, Hispano-Suiza, Jaguar, LaSalle, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, MG, Morgan, NSU, Packard, Pierce-Arrow, Renault, Rolls-Royce, Stutz, Volvo.
Saloon Cars
Saloon cars (also known as sedans in America) are the preferred model of the modern day automobile. The saloon car is designed to be a passenger car and is equipped with two rows of seating that can easily accommodate adult passengers in the rear of the vehicle. The saloon car always has a boot of varying sizes for things such as baggage or storage space and comes in various styles such as four-door, two-door and fastback models. The Saloon can accommodate four or more passengers and has a fixed roof that is full-height up to the rear window.
Sports cars are specifically designed for performance driving and are popular with drivers of all ages. Usually sports cars have only two seats (for the driver and one passenger only) and are not practical family outings. The key elements that are taken into consideration when building/designing a sports car are things such as, speed, power, acceleration, aesthetics, superior road handling, braking, manoeuvrability and low weight.
Sports cars are an awesome feat of engineering, but with anything comes at a price, sacrificing comfort and fuel consumption.
