If you have a car that is persistently causing you concern and you are fed up trying to find out what the problem is, then this site is for you! The following document highlights some of the common faults that cars may suffer and offers solutions as to what it may be!
If you should encounter a strange smell whilst driving in your car, then chances are that there may be something wrong with it and it should be looked into further straight away.
- Petrol or diesel smells are an indication that you may have an over-filled tank.
- If you should be getting oil or exhaust smells in your vehicle, then this could be because there is too much engine oil in the engine, or that the engine oil is old and is burning.
An all too familiar problem with cars, is when you start to hear strange sounds coming from somewhere inside your car. This is made more difficult to locate due to the noise from the engine, the stereo or even the passengers you may be carrying. However the car should make its condition known every time you take a corner or ride over a bump. Some easily recognisable sounds are:
- When you get a strange clicking noise when taking corners, and it seems to be coming from the front wheels, this might indicate that the front shaft is badly damaged and needs to be rectified as soon as possible.
- When you hear a squealing noise it could be the fan belt, and this would mean that it is loose and needs to either be replaced or have some adjustment.
- Clicks from the wheel can indicate loose wheel nuts, faulty bearings, or large pebbles stuck in the tread pattern
- A change in engine tone usually indicates engine overheating, especially if you have been driving at constant speeds for a long time. Stopping or varying the engine speed should be enough if there is no severe problem.
- Backfiring while normal driving means serious problems and should be investigated immediately.
- Engine knocks often mean that it is time to change into a lower gear. However, if this does not remedy the symptom immediately, you should stop and check your engine oil level. It is not recommended that you continue your journey as engine damage is likely to occur.
